The Real Impact of Home Staging
Home staging is the process of preparing and styling a property for sale using carefully selected furniture, artwork and décor to highlight the home’s best features and appeal to the widest range of buyers.
Rather than decorating for personal taste, staging focuses on creating a lifestyle that buyers can imagine themselves living in. Professional stylists use modern furniture, neutral colours and thoughtful layouts to make spaces feel larger, brighter and more inviting.
With most buyers first seeing a property online, a strong visual presentation can make a significant difference to the level of interest a home receives, particularly in competitive markets such as Adelaide.
Research in Australia shows that professional home staging can significantly improve both the sale price and the speed of sale.
Some key statistics include:
Professionally staged homes can sell for 5–12% more on average, according to Australian property research.
Some studies show staging can add an average of around $69,000 to a property’s sale price.
Well-presented homes can sell 30–50% faster than comparable unstaged homes.
Around 82% of buyers say staging helps them visualise a property as their future home.
For sellers, this means that investing in a professional presentation can help a property stand out in a competitive market and attract stronger buyer interest. Professional home staging helps showcase a property’s full potential and allows buyers to emotionally connect with the space.

Behind the Scenes: Getting Key Staging Up and Running
It all begins with an idea.
Starting Key Staging has been such an exciting adventure, but it definitely hasn’t happened overnight. There’s been a lot to plan, organise, and learn along the way, and every step has brought me closer to seeing my vision take shape.
After deciding to take the leap and start my own business, I wanted to make sure Key Staging was built on a strong foundation, professional, reliable, and ready to deliver quality from day one. It’s been a mix of creativity, planning, and plenty hands-on work to get everything in place.
Here’s a look at what I’ve been working on behind the scenes:
Business setup: Registering the business, sorting the ABN, and getting all the paperwork in order. It’s not the most glamorous part, but it’s essential for building something solid.
Stock and equipment: I made the decision early on to invest in my own furniture and décor rather than hire. This gives me full control over quality, consistency, and availability. I’ve spent countless hours furniture shopping, researching suppliers, and keeping an eye on the latest trends to ensure every piece feels fresh and stylish
Research and inspiration: I’ve taken time to study other staging firms, visit display homes, and explore different layouts to see how spaces flow and connect. I’ve also researched ways to maximise style while incorporating lightweight, easy-to-move pieces, because practicality matters just as much as presentation.
Tools and systems: From quoting and invoicing software to scheduling tools, I’ve set up systems that keep everything organised and efficient. My background in data management and business organisation has really helped here.
Website and social media: Creating an online presence has been a big focus—building the website, setting up social accounts, and sharing what Key Staging is all about. It’s been exciting to see it all come together.
Logistics: Behind every beautifully staged home is a lot of planning. I’ve organised storage, transport, and inventory systems to make sure every item is tracked, cared for, and ready for each project.
Networking: My husband has been an incredible support, using his connections with builders and property professionals to help open doors and grow the business.
It’s been a lot of work, but each task has brought me closer to launching Key Staging. I’m excited for what’s ahead!
Taking the Leap - Why I Started Key Staging
Taking the Leap
Sometimes life gives us a sign that it’s time for a new chapter. For me, that moment came when two key events aligned: my work contract was up for renewal, and our home had just sold. I had a decision to make, renew my contract or take a leap of faith and use some of the home proceeds to start my own business. With the support and encouragement of my husband, I realised I was ready to do something that truly reflected my creativity and passion. It felt like the right time to invest in myself and that’s how Key Staging began.
I’ve always loved styling. Even at home, I’d find myself rearranging furniture, experimenting with colours, and finding ways to make a space feel warm and inviting. With a background in business, real estate, interior presentation, and resource management, I knew I had the skills to turn that passion into something meaningful. I wanted to create a business that combined creativity with purpose, helping homeowners and agents present properties that truly stand out.
My husband has been my biggest supporter, encouraging me to take the leap and backing me every step of the way. Early on, I made the decision to invest in my own stock rather than hire, giving me full control over quality and consistency. It was a big step, but one that allows me to deliver a more personal and reliable service to every client.
Growing up, I saw firsthand the highs and lows of running a business. My mother owns her own real estate company, and watching her dedication and resilience taught me that success comes from hard work, careful planning, passion, and belief in what you do. Those lessons are now at the heart of Key Staging.
For me, home staging is about more than just furniture; it’s about creating a feeling. It’s about helping buyers imagine their future in a space and helping sellers present their homes with confidence. What started as a sign to take a chance is the beginning of an exciting journey, a chance to build something beautiful, purposeful, and entirely my own.
I hope this business not only inspires others but also inspires my four children. Through Key Staging, I want to show them what’s possible when you back yourself and follow your passion. Along the way, I hope to teach them about business management, bookkeeping, logistics, marketing, and the value of hard work. Most of all, I hope my courage to take this leap encourages them to chase their own dreams.
